- The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the country's premier professional body for the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
- For Global Talent aspirants, ACS is a well-known Australian nominating organisation.
- Your application will be strengthened if you are nominated by the American Chemical Society (ACS).
- The Australian government's Global Talent Independent initiative (GTI) aims to recruit highly qualified and talented people to Australia.
- Candidates who match the qualifying criteria can apply for a Distinguished Talent visa through the Department of Home Affairs.

Under the GTI programme, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) will accept nominations from the ACS, which it regards to be an organisation with a national reputation in the following target sector groups:
- Cybersecurity is important.
- Quantum Information/Advanced Digital/Data Science/ICT/ICT/ICT/ICT/ICT/ICT/ICT/ICT
- FinTech (financial technology) is (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)
- Medical Technology (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)
- Agriculture Technology (AgTech) (candidates with a predominantly tech focus)
Phases of an ACS-nominated Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program application:
Phase 1: Submit an Expression of Interest with DHA
Phase 2: DHA will help you through the process and issue you a Global Talent Identifier.
Phase 3: On the DHA website, create an ImmiAccount.
Phase 4: Send your CV to ACS and explain why you are a valuable contribution to the Australian digital sector.
Phase 5: If your case is suitable, ACS will accept it and ask for a fee, further information, and maybe an interview.
Phase 6: Fees, email details, and papers should be sent to ACS.
Phase 7: ACS will complete the nomination form and letter on your behalf.
Phase 8: Submit an application to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (DHA) and wait for requests for more information.
Way to Apply
Check stages before Before Applying (Expression of Interest) (EOI)
Stage 1:
Submit an Expression of Interest to DHA for consideration under the Global Talent initiative through the Global Talent contact form.
Stage 2:
DHA will offer a unique Global Talent identity to those who match the program's criteria.
A Distinguished Talent visa application will receive priority processing.
Preparing for a visa
Stage 3:
- You can submit an application for a Distinguished Talent visa online using ImmiAccount. You'll need to use your Global Talent unique identity for this.
- When preparing/filing your application, make sure you choose the relevant visa subclass on the application form. When you lodge, it depends on whether you are in or outside of Australia.
- If you are outside of Australia when you apply for a visa, you must submit a subclass 124 application.
- If you are in Australia when you apply for the visa, you must submit a subclass 858 application.
- You must address the Distinguished Talent subclass 124 or 858 visa criteria in detail, including:
- Whether or not you are well-known throughout the world, and whether or if your achievements are exceptional.
- Whether or if you are still well-known in your industry
- Whether your Australian settlement will be a resource to the Australian community
- Whether or whether your gift will help all of Australia
ACS Nomination (Stages 4–7)
- You must be nominated by someone with a national reputation in the same field as you.
- ACS may be reached at assessment@acs.org.au. attaching a full CV/Resume and stating why you are a valuable contribution to the Australian tech industry
- If you are eligible, you will be required to pay a $500 charge and provide the following information:
- Scan of the bio-page of a passport in colour
- A copy of the Department of Home Affairs' invitation to apply for a visa (if applicable)
- Confirmation of which of the aforementioned target sectors you feel apply to you.
Additional information to support how you fit the following requirements (as outlined in Step 5 above):
- Whether or not you are well-known throughout the world, and whether or if your achievements are exceptional
- Whether or if you are still well-known in your industry
- Whether your Australian settlement will be a resource to the Australian community
- Whether or whether your gift will help all of Australia.
A quick phone or video interview may be necessary, and a variety of methods for investigating a candidate's past may be employed.
You will be given a nomination support letter in which you will make a case to the government for why you would be a valuable contribution to the Australian digital economy.
A nomination for Distinguished Talent will be sent to you (Form 1000)
You will be followed up on to see how well you did, and you may be provided more ACS assistance.
After Lodging Visa Application
Stage 8:
The Department of Home Affairs will contact you to arrange for health and background checks, as well as any other information they may want.
